Senator Mike Brubaker Beats Nomination Petition Mandate by 468%

Download Press Release

LITITZ, PA - Nearly 2,400 Republican voters in the 36th Pennsylvania Senate District have put their names on the line for Senator Mike Brubaker.

That’s the number of registered Republican voters in the Lancaster/Chester County district who voluntarily signed the state-required 2010 Nomination Petitions allowing Brubaker to campaign for a second four-year Senate term.

By any measurement, that’s quite an accomplishment. It’s even more astounding considering that the Commonwealth requires only 500 signatures for a state senate candidate to qualify for the May 18 primary election ballot.

With 2,338 verified, notarized and filed signatures, Brubaker and his petition team, headed by campaign administration director Nelson L. Peters, exceeded the required minimum by 468%.

But it didn’t happen by accident.

It took the combined efforts of energetic volunteer circulators from the ranks of Republican Committee of Lancaster County committee members, as well as unaffiliated Brubaker supporters.

From February 16 to March 9 - the lawful dates in which the Pennsylvania Bureau of Elections allows Nomination Petitions to be signed - a 90-person volunteer team crisscrossed the district to secure registered GOP voter signatures on 118 separate petitions.

"The effort was just incredible, and I am truly grateful to those who circulated on behalf of my candidacy, as well as those persons whose signatures have allowed my name to be placed on the ballot," Brubaker said.

"I do have to give a special nod to four great friends who went way beyond the call of duty," Brubaker added.

"First is to Bob Winegardner and Tom Plitt from New Holland. Together with their wives, Bob and Tom obtained 374 signatures of their Garden Spot Village neighbors.

"Next I want to recognize Barry Weaver, Cocalico Area Republican Committee Chairman, who led the pack among the County GOP Committee by personally securing 147 signatures.

"And finally to my good friend and long-time supporter Nelson Peters, who pulled it all together, I say a sincere thank-you."

LITITZ, PA - Pennsylvania State Senator Mike Brubaker (R 36th) has earned the enthusiastic re-election endorsements of the Republican Committees of Lancaster and Chester Counties.

In Lancaster County, the 52-year-old Brubaker was endorsed by acclamation for a second four-year term in the Pennsylvania Senate by the 36th Senate District committee members attending the area GOP’s February 16 convention.

"In his second term, Senator Mike Brubaker will build upon the relationships he forged in his District and in Harrisburg, for the good of the people, and common sense conservatives across the Commonwealth. I fully support and endorse the re-election of Senator Mike Brubaker," Ebersole said.

Echoing Ebersole is Republican Committee of Chester County chairman Skip Brion. "Senator Brubaker is a good, hard-working legislator. We are proud to endorse him for re-election this year," Brubaker won the endorsement at the Chester County GOP’s February 20 convention.

In the 36th Senate District, Brubaker represents more than 250,000 residents in the communities and rural areas of northern Lancaster County, and a portion of western Chester County.
